A far easier tool to use, instead of an airlock, is a pickle pipe and pickle pebble, from masontops.com. The “pebble” is a glass weight that keeps everything submerged in the brine to avoid mold formation. The “pipe” is a silicone pice that resembles a large baby bottle nipple. It allows gasses to escape to avoid leakage, while preventing anything from getting into the bottle.
