what gravy should be used?
The gravy is optional in this recipe, but if you’d like to make it, you can scroll through and use any of these recipes https://www.kosher.com/search?type=recipes&q=Gravy or try this one https://www.kosher.com/recipe/super-gravy-for-chicken-beef-or-veal-4819.
I used sweet potato instead of potatoes recently and my kids voted that they like the sweet potato version better.
Question Do you need to cook the meat before placing on potatoes?
No, the recipe does not say so. If you’re worried the meat is not going to cook you can, however, I think the meat would cook in an hour.
Does it freeze well? raw or baked?
It is not recommended to freeze mash potatoes, they could lose their creamy texture. I would recommend making and freezing the meat mixture so all you would have to do is make the mashed potatoes and bake.
