add or remove this to/from your favorites

This dairy shakshuka, the classic Israeli egg dish, is full of vegetables like spinach and broccoli – and big on flavor. Between the eggs and feta cheese, it really packs in the protein. It’s a great meal to share with friends. Serve with gluten free bread, if needed, or skip the bread altogether and serve with your favorite low-carb accompaniments.

Recipe by Rudy Rochman via Danielle Renov, as seen on Breaking Bread.

Ingredients

Shakshuka

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 4 yellow onions, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups frozen chopped spinach, defrosted and drained to remove excess water

  • 1 and 1/2 cups frozen broccoli, stems removed, roughly chopped

  • 1 cup heavy cream

For Serving

  • prepared techina

Directions

Prepare the Shakshuka Yerukah (Green Shakshuka)

1.

Heat a large pan (ideally one that comes with a lid) over medium heat.

2.

Add oil, onions, and one teaspoon salt and cook for about five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and stir for one minute until fragrant. Add spinach and broccoli. Continue cooking for about eight minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is heated through.

3.

Pour in cream and remaining salt and pepper and mix to combine.

4.

Use a spoon to create six wells in the mixture and add a whole egg to each well. Cover the pan and cook for one minute.

5.

Remove cover and sprinkle the cheese and olives over the top. Cover the pan again and cook for another minute or so until the whites are set but the yolk is still runny and delicious.

6.

Serve immediately with pita and all the other good dipping things and ENJOY!

Chilul Hashem!
Promoting achus in Klal Yisroel does not mean providing a platform for apikorsus.

I do encourage promoting achdus but not with men and women, this is called Aroyus, not achdus!! I actually do appreciate the achuds on this platform, not when its done inappropiately, – violating tnzius.

I am not putting down people. I was bringing to your attention that the video was not tzniut. No intenion for sinat chinam. Tzniut was also one of the reasons the beit hamikdash was destroyed. REprimanding people of a wrongdoing is not sinat chinam, its a mitvavh, check it out with your ruv.

I am highly discusted with this video!!! I jsut heard about kosher.com and hoped to get some kosher recipes that fit for a kosher kitchen. THIS DOES NOT FIT A KOSHER KITCHEN!! MEN AND WOMEN EATING TOGETHER AND PERFORMING ON A SHOW TOGETHER. THIS IS NOT KOSHER. Dont tell me its my choice not to look at it! you are posting it on you site, if i wont look at it you other will and the sin will be the ones posting! KOSHER IS NOT ONLY IN THE FOOD! ITS ALSO OUR MANNER AND HOW WE BEHAVE! Men and women that are not related (it seems to be the case here) need to be separated by a wall (mechitzah) when under one roof. I will not say its Yichud as I see there are plenty of men (and others not seen). A show broadcasting strange men and women is forbidden by halacha and by all rabbanim of all sects of Klal Yisroel. Its a shame that a forum that considers themselves “Kosher” should show such an unkosher video where Jewish people are behaving so immodeslty. (modesty is not only in clothing). This was my introduction to Kosher.com. A video of ‘Frum ‘ People offering ‘Kosher’ recipers and videos to the Jewish Community. Not impressive!

I also felt that the proximity between Danielle & the other males, especially Mr. Rochman was too close.

First of all, I am sure the producers of Kosher.com consult Rabbanim about these show. There is no such halacha that men and women have to be separated by walls or mechitzot when under one roof. There are people who may keep such minhagim but this not halacha. There is no problem of Yichud and I would not be surprised that Danielle’s husband was on site. She was not with “strange men” as she mentioned that she knew them before. She happens to be one of the most tznius presenters on Kosher.com, and I did not see any immodest behavior.
You are welcome to your opinion, but one should be very careful before condeming someone or somethings. The halacha of Richylut and Motzei Shame Rah are very specific about how one can speak. Lashon Hara is very damaging. We should all be careful!

Esther Leah,

How are you so sure that the staff of kosher.com review everything with rabbanim? you dicuss every minor business transaction with your detail? if they do discuss with a ruv, I want that ruv’s name. I also need a heter for my business to host videos men and women together. And the fact that you wrote that Danielle was not with strange men as she mentioned that she knew them before OMG!! Where is the world we up to that we dont know basics?? STRANGE MEN IS NOT IF WE KNEW THEM BEFORE, ITS MEN THAT ARE BIOLOGICALLY NOT RELATED TO YOU! You could know men, I know lots of men but as per the halacha (looks like you know halach well) they ARE CONSIDERED STRANGE MEN. No Richylut and Motzei Shame Rah was mentioned here. I agree Lahson Hara is very damaning, HOWEVER NOT SAYING MUSSAR IS EVEN MORE WHEN YOU FEEL THERE IS A NEED. TZNIUS IS ALSO VERY DAMAGING. (if you did not see any immodes thing, here it is: men and women together in one room broadcasting a show is not tzniut. just face the fact. you may not practice it, but this is the halacha). And here the discussion will end

I agree that there definitely some sexual tension there. Rudy is a handsome young Jewish celebrity who literally fights antisemitism for a living and can cook. It’s natural for there to be some attraction there. So while there may not have been any technical violation of a particular halacho, I can see why some of the orthodox men and women who are not comfortable with Their own boundaries and attractions might have expressed discomfort at this video
