Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten

  • pretzel salt, for sprinkling

Directions

Prepare the Pretzel Dogs

1.

Prepare the baking soda bath by bringing a large pot of water to a boil.

2.

Meanwhile, roll out each piece of pizza dough into a rope and wrap around each hot dog. Pinch seams tight to ensure they won’t unravel. Repeat with all dough and hot dogs.

3.

Add baking soda to boiling water and submerge each pretzel dog for about 30 seconds. Remove to a Gefen Parchment Paper lined baking sheet.

4.

Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with pretzel salt. Bake for about 20–25 minutes on 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

5.

Divide pizza dough into six equal pieces.

Yes, you can freeze them either baked or raw. If raw, allow to defrost before baking. If baked, allow to defrost and then reheat uncovered for several minutes.

Do the pretzel dogs freeze? These look amazing! My boys would love these! Do these freeze well?
Will it have the same “pretzel” crust if frozen?

If baked first they should. Just be sure to bake a bit crisp after defrosting.

Baking question You placed your hotdog pretzels low in the oven. Do you have a convection oven or do we need to bake these on the lowest rack?

Middle rack is fine.

Sooo good! Beware, you will never eat a regular hot dog bun again
But how do you get the water not to overflow when adding the baking soda?

Make sure there are a few inches of space between the water and the top of the pot. Another trick is to put a wooden spoon over the opening and it prevents it from over flowing.
