Although this recipe may not have fresh tomatoes in it, your taste buds will tell you otherwise. With flavor straight out of the Italian countryside, you’ll be transported to another world of flavor!
1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons good-quality olive oil, such as Tuscanini
1 large onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, finely minced or 3 cubes Gefen Frozen Garlic
28 ounces finely diced (or crushed) tomatoes, such as Tuscanini Crushed Tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 tablespoon sugar
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
Heat oil and butter in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
Sauté onion until translucent, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
Add tomatoes, basil, and sugar.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper.
