When I growing up, Manischewitz gefilte fish was always a part of our holiday meals. It brings back memories of the whole family sitting around my grandmother’s table. I decided to give a modern twist to this classic.
1 leek, white and green parts, cleaned and sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil, plus additional for frying the patties
6 pieces Manischewitz Gefilte Fish
3 eggs
1/2 cup Gefen Bread Crumbs
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pre-cooked beet, such as Gefen Organic Beets, finely diced
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
In a large frying pan heat one tablespoon oil over medium high heat.
Add the leeks and 1/4 teaspoon salt and cook until soft and brown.
In a bowl, mash the gefilte fish.
Add the eggs, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and leeks. Place oil in the frying pan, heat over medium heat.
Form patties of the fish mixture and fry in the frying pan for about three minutes on each side.
To make the beet aioli, mix together the beet, mayo, lemon juice, garlic, and Dijon mustard. Serve the fish patties with the aioli.
