The Italian version of French Toast! This is very popular and can be made with any type of cheese. This sandwich is delicious when it’s hot, but equally tasty when packed up for lunch in wax paper or foil.
For the Adults: Add two chopped sundried tomatoes, black olives, and/or thin slices of red onion inside the sandwich before sealing and frying. You can also dip the soaked sandwiches into seasoned panko crumbs before frying.
2 ounces mozzarella cheese
2 slices sandwich bread
salt, for sprinkling
black pepper, for sprinkling
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon oil, for frying
Place cheese on one slice of bread and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Top with remaining bread slice.
In a shallow dish, whisk together egg, milk, and additional salt. Dip the sandwich in the egg mixture. Flip and let sit for a few minutes.
Heat oil in a frying pan. Add sandwiches and cook for three to four minutes, or until golden. Flip and cook on the other side.
