My family loved how succulent and delicious this chicken came out. Smells heavenly as it bakes. Simple ingredients. Fabulous supper!
5–6 chicken thighs
1 teaspoon Bartenura Olive Oil
1 clove garlic, crushed or 1 cube Gefen Frozen Garlic
2 tablespoons sautéed onions (see note)
1 teaspoon paprika (I use Moroccan paprika in oil)
1/3 cup brown sugar
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
1/3 cup Alfasi Cabernet Sauvignon or other dry or semi-dry red wine
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Clean chicken pieces and pat dry. Place in a 9- x 13-inch baking pan.
Mix olive oil, garlic, onions, paprika, brown sugar, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Smear all over chicken pieces on both sides.
Pour the wine into the empty spice bowl and stir to gather up any bits of flavor left behind. Pour around the chicken in the pan.
Cover and bake for an hour and a half. Uncover and bake for an additional half hour. Serve with oven roasted sweet potatoes and string beans.

delicious!
I don’t see the note about the onions in the recipe. thanks
Can white wine be used instead of red?
Yes I actually like it even better with white wine. A dry, crisp Sauvignon Blanc such as the Herzog Lineage would work great!
can this be made with red semi sweet wine ?
yes, should be fine 🙂
Chicken tops Can this be made with chicken tops?
Sure!
Sub for brown sugar? What can I use instead of brown sugar?
Hi Nechama. Do you want something sugar free, or just another sweet ingredient?
i would use 2 tbs. honey
We all love this one! And so easy to make.
I agree with you 100%! My family’s favorite chicken too!
Do you leave the skin on? Or remove it?
It seems as if you would leave the skin on.
Does the wine specifically have to be dry or semi dry? Can I use sweet wine in this recipe?
Dry/semi dry is preferred in cooking. If you don’t want to use wine, you can try adding chicken or veggie stock as a substitute but it won’t have the same deep and savory taste as the wine would.
Do you generally use boneless skinless thighs? What changes should I make for using them?
Would you recommend this recipe for shabbos sheva brachos for 60 pple and how would I multiply the recipe??
I’m making 60 small chicken legs.
Tysm!
Yes, you definitely can. You’d have to multiply the recipe by around 10.
juicy and soft! my friday night staple. i tried it with silan to cut out the sugar- also delicious!
That’s a good idea.
Soft and delicious!
