When I discovered these adorable Simchah Collection mini ware containers, I had a feeling they would work well for a cute yet elegant mishloach manos package. They’re available in round, square, or rectangular shapes, and there are so many great options that you can create. I filled them with cake, but they can be filled with candies, nuts, or even a slab of butter and sent with fresh bread or rolls. Place them in boxes (as shown) and tie them together with ribbon or tulle, or you can shrink-wrap them on a tray. Whether you use one, two, or three containers, they’re sure to add a special touch!

Ingredients

Extras

  • plastic mini ware dishes

  • 3 3.5- x 3.5- x 2-inch (9- x 9- x 5-centimeter) plastic boxes

  • 2 rock candy lollipops

  • tulle

Cake Batter

  • eggs, separated

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon Gefen Vanilla

  • 1/3 cup oil

  • 1/3 cup orange juice

  • 1 cup flour

Strawberry Cream

Lemon Cream

  • juice of 1 and 1/2 lemons

  • 2 packets vanilla sugar

  • 1 and 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar

  • 1 and 1/4 cups margarine

  • egg yolks

Garnish

  • whipped cream

Directions

Make the Cakes

1.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a disposable baking sheet with Gefen Easy-Baking Parchment Paper.

2.

To make the cake, beat the egg whites until stiff. Add sugar. Add eggs and then the remaining ingredients. Mix until combined and quickly spread batter onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.

3.

For the strawberry cream, place dessert topping in the bowl of your mixer. Beat until stiff and then add blended strawberries.

4.

For the lemon cream, mix together the first four ingredients in the bowl of your mixer until well combined. Add egg yolks one at a time and beat.

Notes:

You can substitute custard for lemon cream.

To Assemble

1.

Using the bottom of one of the mini ware dishes, cut out the cake and fill the remaining dishes with cut-out cake. Fill the remaining space with cream. Using a star tip, decorate with some whipped cream in the center of the cream. Stack the dishes and place in plastic boxes. Tie with tulle, adding the rock candy on top.

Where’s the second min? This looks amazing, but mishloach manos are supposed to have two minim, and it is doubtful that the rock candy tips can be considered a second min. Just thought I’d bring that to everyone’s attention, so that if they do use this idea they should know they need to add a second min.

I guess it’s good to ask your RAv for what’s considered second min. Thanks for bringing it up though.

They are adorable. I would get a paper goods store.
