This is one of those recipes that I grew up with. My daughter requested that we make them because her friend always brings them to school and kindly shares. After a few phone calls, we discovered the source as none other than my friend Norene Gilletz. Here is a variation of her original recipe and a new way to dress it up.
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons Haddar Baking Powder
2 teaspoons orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with Gefen Easy Baking Parchment Paper.
Place eggs, sugar, and oil in a food processor fitted with the steel blade and process until combined. Add flour, baking powder, and orange juice and pulse until just combined and dough forms.
In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Using about one tablespoon of dough for each cookie, roll into a long rope and dip in the sugar mixture. Fold in half and twist.
Place in the baking sheet and bake until bottoms are just starting to brown, about 12–14 minutes.
Yields about 5 dozen cookies

i’ve made this recipe 2xs once as twists and once as cookies. I found that the dough is a pleasure to work with. The consistency feels like there like it is a margarine type of dough. I always make it by hand and find it easy.
Sounds like a keeper!
wondering was this dough super hard to work with for anyone else? i literlally gave us and just made it in to regular cookies? any ideas how to do this again the right way?
Hard to shape I LOVE these cookies, but I find them very hard to shape, even after refrigerating the dough, I can only manage small balls as the dough is sticky. Is there something I can do? Also, any tricks for cleaning the processor?
i totally feel u i have the same issue what did u end up doing?
Steel blade Is this referring to the “s” blade?
Yup!
Can I mix these cookies by hand? Do I have to use a food processor for this or can I mix it by hand? My food processor is already put away for pesach…
It’s a stiff dough, so it will give you a workout. But hey, I make challa by hand and I survived.
I did with no problems. I only use a mixer for Challah
great recipe. just had to add more flour
I love this recipe. I used gluten free flour because of my hubby’s dietary needs and also used avocado oil. Everyone that has eaten them has given them a 5 star. Thank you for this wonderful, delicious, and easy to make recipe.
Great taste & easy recipe, but dough was hard to roll and keep shape. Should also note that cookies double in size.
really good!! these are super addicting!
the dough is really hard to shape- had to add more flour
Fantastic recipe! I also have to add more flour IF I mix the batter too much. I also added more cinammon. This was a big hit.
Great.
A very runny batter The cookies taste brilliant, but the batter is very runny. I had to add about another cup of flour until I was able to roll it.
Also, the cookies came out really big. To serve 5 dozen, use less than a tbsp for each.
Interesting that happened. Thanks for the feedback.
