The best challah recipe!

Ingredients

Challah

  • 5 envelopes dry yeast

  • 5 cups very warm water

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 6 lb bag high-gluten flour

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 tblsp salt

  • 2/3 cup oil

Directions

Prepare the Challah

1.

Place the 5 envelopes dry yeast, 5 cups very warm water and 2 cups sugar in the mixer. Let sit a couple minutes.

Turn on mixer to low speed. Start to add flour from 6 pound bag high gluten flour. Add about 1/4-1/2 of the bag slowly and let mix well. 

3.

Then add eggs, oil and salt. Mix well.

Then add the rest of flour slowly. Mix well.

5.

Put into white garbage bag with little oil on bottom (or cover in the mixing bowl) to rise for 2.5 hours.

6.

Braid. Let rise another 2 hours.

7.

Bake on 350 for about 50 minutes. Makes 4 large size loaves or any size you like! I get the oval shaped pans.
