There’s nothing like meat and potatoes. Here, they both get a burst of flavor from the onions and spices. The minute steak comes out melt-in-your-mouth soft from the long, slow cooking time, which makes it particularly irresistible.

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 2 onions, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 4 (4-oz.) slices minute steak

  • 2–3 medium white potatoes, cut in 1-inch slices

  • boiling water

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 2 teaspoons Gefen Onion Powder

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cubes Gefen Frozen Garlic

  • 1 teaspoon coriander

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Wine Pairing

Psagot Edom

Directions

Caramelized Onion Minute Steak

1.

Heat a wide stainless steel pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the onions, without oil, constantly stirring until they wilt and turn a deep amber color.

2.

Add the minute steak and cook on each side until mostly cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes per side.

3.

Arrange the sliced potatoes around the meat and add enough boiling water to almost cover the mixture. Season with the bay leaves, onion powder, garlic powder, coriander, salt, and pepper. Cover the pan and reduce heat to low.

4.

Simmer until the sauce has thickened and most of the water has evaporated, about 30 to 40 minutes. Serve hot.
