Are we the only ones who wait all year for Thanksgiving? Sure you could make these food for any yom tov, but there’s something about eating them all together, when there’s a chill in the air and you’ve pulled your sweaters out of the basement. It’s the only time of year your big dinner is called for 4pm, and you can’t wait! We can’t wait either. Break out your gourds, your potatoes—both sweet and white— your beans whether you call them string or green… — It’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving!

Check with your Rav before celebrating Thanksgiving… Just thought you should know that Rav Avigdor Miller ztzl said that eating turkey etc on Thanksgiving is ‘avuzrayhu d’avoda zara’, which means its not exactly avoda zara, but its close… Whilst it is not a Christian holiday, it is a church holiday…

HI Chani,
You are definitely not the first reader to have strong feelings about Thanksgiving, But As for Kosher.com, we have a readership Rav Moshe Feinstein, z’tzl and many others were matir Thanksgiving. We aren’t encouraging or discouraging celebrating the holiday. We have a large audience who follow Rav Moshe and many who don’t. We offer our readership this information without
suggesting how they spend their day.
