Three words.
Gefilte. Fish. Board.
Yup, I went there. A place no one has gone before (to my knowledge and research), and if I do say so myself, the coolest new way to serve your gefilte fish!
This board is great for all year round, but I had Rosh Hashanah in mind when creating it. I used fish-shaped cookie cutters on my gefilte fish to symbolize the fish head at our Rosh Hashanah seders. I bought pre-made gefilte fish loaves. First I cut each loaf lengthwise, which gave me about 3 pieces of flat fish. Then I cut out fish shapes with the cookie cutter on the flat side of each piece. You will have some scraps leftover (perfect for snacking).
I used only store-bought ingredients, because you know me, I like to focus on the presentation. I included traditional horseradish, but I also went with a variety of flavors that were a nod to horseradish. For example, I used fresh candy and yellow beets, and a variety of pickled items too.
Below is a list of products I used and highly recommend.
Gefilte Fish (you can buy the fish-shaped cookie cutters here)
Gerkin Pickles
Gefen Hearts of Palm Spaghetti
Manischewitz Horseradish
Absolutely Gluten free Flatbreads (Everything Flavor)
Manischewitz Dill Creamy Horseradish
Tuscanini Calabrian Chili Peppers
Garlic breadsticks
Capers
Candy and yellow beets
Flat kichel crackers (Spicy)
Fried Onions
Endive leaves
Cherry tomatoes
Fresh dill, for garnish
I used a very long board, but you can use a smaller one, a platter, or wooden cutting board.
Not only is this board stunning, but it only took me about 15 minutes to put together- no cooking required. It’s the perfect addition to any Rosh Hashanah table!
Shana Tova!
