We’re back with another crazy cake mix hack. A little something for those baked donut fans…two-ingredient baked donuts!! They are easy to make and oh-so fluffy. I decorated mine with blue icing and festive sprinkles so even though they’re not fried, they’re still definitely in the festive Chanukah spirit!
The applesauce gives the donuts a lighter and fluffier texture then you may be used to in a typical baked donut, making them slightly more delicate. Ensure your donuts are baked all the way through and cool properly in the pan so that they come out amazing!!
For the Donuts:
1 box yellow cake mix
2 cups applesauce
For the Icing:
1 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream or non-dairy creamer
1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 to 3 drops blue gel food coloring
Assorted sprinkles: Wilton Pearlized Sugar, Silver Edible Luster Dust, Silver Star Sprinkles
Special Equipment:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Mix the cake mix with the applesauce until combined. The batter will be fluffier than a traditional baked donut batter. Grease a donut pan with cooking spray. Fill a piping bag or large ziptop bag three-fourths full with batter. Snip off the bottom of the bag and pipe into the pan, filling each cavity three-fourths full.
3. Bake for seven to eight minutes. The sides of the donut should start to pull away from the pan, and that’s how you know they’re ready! Let the donuts cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before handling. They are fluffier than your usual baked donuts, so take extra care in removing them from the pan. Transfer the donuts to a cooling rack.
4. Whisk the icing ingredients together. Dip the donuts in the icing and hold over the bowl for a few seconds to let the excess icing drip off. Add the sprinkles immediately. Let the icing harden for 10 minutes before enjoying.
There you have it! Instead of standing over a hot fryer all Chanukah, make these 2 ingredient donuts and get just as many smiles and “YUMS” at your celebration!
Chag Sameach!
