Planning a birthday party for your child can be overwhelming, but making an adorable and delicious cake doesn’t have to be. In this article, we feature three delightful birthday cakes that parents can easily make, even without any baking or cake decorating experience. These cakes are not only super easy to create but also sure to impress your little ones and their friends.

We’ll walk you through each step so you feel confident during the entire process. We decided to create an adorable construction cake made from a sheet cake, and a whimsical ice cream cone cake and flower cake both made out of store-bought cakes (you heard that correctly- no baking required).

The only downside to these cakes? All your guests will start placing orders!

Let’s make your child’s birthday celebration extra special, and let’s get baking!

Ice Cream Cone Cake:

I love this ice cream cone cake because it can make an appearance at any party- no matter the party theme! And the absolute best part? There’s no baking required! This frosted cake was ordered from a local bakery. We placed an order for a pink frosted, round 2-layer cake and all that was left to do was the extra fun part! This cake is probably the hardest out of the three, but totally doable. Let’s get started!

You Will Need:

-2-layer 9-inch pink round cake

-1 bag of Conettos

-2 cups blue buttercream frosting

-Mini gum balls

-Assorted sprinkles

For this cake, you will need to know how to pipe frosting. (You can find directions at the bottom of this article.

1. Hold the decorating bag straight up with the star tip facing completely down towards the cake, directly above the surface. Squeeze the bag to form a star. Stop pressing and pull tip straight up off of the surface. Continue piping stars all the way around the edge of the top of the cake without any gaps between each.

2. Place a mini gum ball on top of each star.

3. Add sprinkles to the bottom third of the cake. You can either use your hands to stick the sprinkles on, or cut strips of parchment paper, spray with non-stick cooking spray, cover in sprinkles, and stick onto the cake.

4. Take your Conettos and place them randomly on your cake, pressing into the frosting gently to stick.

5. Take your piping bag filled with frosting and, using the same method as before, face the tip directly above the top of the cones and pipe a star or a swirl. Top the frosting with a mini gum ball.

6. Add more sprinkles to the top of the cake! And you’re done.

Flower Cake:

The beauty of this cake lies in the simplicity of it. You can either make three 9-inch round cakes and layer them with frosting, or buy a frosted cake from the bakery. You only need 3 ingredients for the decorations, which are sold in any kosher grocery store, and this cake is perfect for little kids to help make.

You Will Need:

-2-layer 9-inch white round cake

-Haddar Vanilla Sandwich Cookies

-Approximately 12 green sour sticks

-1 package green sour belts

-Pastel chocolate lentils

-1/2 cup white frosting

1. Place your Haddar sandwich cookies around your cake, in alternating heights.

2. Measure the bottom of each cookie to the bottom of the cake for the stems and cut sour sticks accordingly. Stick onto the cake under the cookie.

3. Cut leaf shapes from the sour belts and place one on either side of each stem.

4. Add a dot of frosting to the center of each sandwich cookie and place a chocolate lentil on the frosting.

Construction Cake:

Throw the ultimate construction-themed party with our easy-to-follow construction cake tutorial! Designed for even the most inexperienced bakers, this cake is a breeze to create.

You will need:

-Chocolate sheet cake (at least 1.5 feet long)

-Chocolate buttercream frosting

Construction accessories

-Graham crackers, crushed

Poster board, pencil, scissors

1. Start with a simple sheet cake as your base. Cover it in frosting using a flat knife or flat frosting spatula.

2. Trace the number of your choice onto large poster board, cut it out, place it in the center of the frosted cake, and trace an outline into the frosting with a sharp knife.

3. Carefully cut out the number, removing about 1 inch of the cake within the number you just outlined.

4. Now’s the extra fun part. Add your accessories! We added mini toy construction trucks, construction cones that double as candles, and lastly, crushed graham cracker crumbs to resemble piles of dirt.

*How to Fill a Piping Bag:

Snip off the tip of a plastic piping bag and place a large star piping tip down in the bottom of the piping bag. Be careful not to cut so much that the tip slips through!

To fill the bag, place the piping bag in a tall glass cup. Fold the top of the bag down around the cup’s rim. Place your frosting at the bottom of the piping bag. Fill halfway up. Remove the bag from the cup and pinch the piping bag where you see air bubbles to remove them. Twist the top to close the bag.

If you don’t have a piping bag or tip, simply fill a large freezer zip-top bag with your frosting. You don’t even need a tip. Just snip off one of the corners of the bag and pipe your frosting. The end result won’t have the same star appearance, but will look just as nice!

These fun and delicious cakes will be the highlight of your party, impressing both kids and parents alike!
