We recently published an article, “Birthday Cakes For Kids That ANYONE Can Make,” aimed at adults creating cakes for children. Today’s article flips the script, featuring cakes that kids can make for adults.

Just like in the previous article, you can use store-bought cakes or order a plain, unfrosted cake from the bakery to skip the baking step and jump straight to the decorating fun!

The best part about these cakes is that they require no piping or complicated techniques. The decorations are designed to be simple yet beautiful, ensuring success regardless of the child’s age. Kids will feel immense pride presenting any of these cakes to a parent, caregiver, or grandparent.

We’ll guide you through each step, ensuring you feel confident throughout the process. First up is a chocolate candy-loaded cake, followed by a DIY craft cake, and lastly, a gummy-loaded bundt.

Let’s make someone’s birthday extra special. Here we go!

Chocolate Candy-Loaded Cake

This cake is for the chocolate lovers out there. All you need is a layered round cake or even a bundt, some frosting and your favorite chocolate candies. We sliced the chocolate with yummy fillings for more interest and an extra yummy appearance.

You Will Need:

-2-layer 9-inch chocolate round cake

-2 cups chocolate buttercream frosting

-Assortment of chocolate candies (in multiple shapes and sizes). We used the following chocolates:

Geneve Heart Shaped Chocolate Truffles

Gefen Chocolate Coated Wafers

Geneve Gianduja Creamy Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut Cubes

Heaven & Earth Milk Chocolate Bars (No Sugar Added)

Gefen Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups

1. Using a flat frosting spatula or spreading knife, frost the outside of your cake.

2. Start with the bigger chocolate candies and place them around the cake, leaving space for smaller candies.

3. Fill in all the gaps with smaller candies, breaking them to fit if necessary.

4. Stand back and admire your creation, because you’re done!

DIY Craft Cake

How adorable is this cake? If there’s anything better than a cake made by a child, it’s a cake with their handmade drawings atop said cake.

You Will Need:

-1 small square cake with white frosting (feel free to use any boxed cake from your local grocery store)

Happy Birthday candles

Lollipop sticks

-Drawings on regular color or white paper, cut to shape

Geneve Heart Shaped Chocolate Truffles

-Tape

1. Determine which side of your cake will be the front. Using tape, stick your cut out drawings on the back of a lollipop stick. Place them towards the back of the cake.

2. Place the candles in front of the lollipop sticks.

3. Scatter your heart-shaped chocolates wherever there are empty spaces.

Gummy-Loaded Bundt

This cake is one that the kids will certainly want to take part in. Although geared for kids to make for an adult, let’s be honest, this is a cake made by kids for…themselves, but will no-doubt bring joy to all.

You Will Need:

-Vanilla bundt cake

-2 cups vanilla buttercream frosting

-Assorted gummies and taffies (try to stick to a similar color palette)

1. Using a flat frosting spatula or spreading knife, frost the outside of your cake.

2. Start with the bigger candies and place them around the cake, leaving space for smaller candies.

3. Fill in all the gaps with smaller candies.

4. That’s it! (Oh and don’t forget to taste test the candies too!)
