An Inside Look At “More Food You Love That Loves You Back”

Elisheva Trenk December 23, 2024

More than a Cookbook, It’s a Lifestyle

In her 2022 debut cookbook, Food You Love That Loves You Back, Rorie Weisberg did what she does best: simplify health-conscious cooking and baking to make it accessible, easy-to-understand, and positively delicious to eat.

Now, she’s back with, well, more

In the newly released More Food You Love That Loves You Back, Rorie teams up with Sara Goldstein, culinary chef and food stylist, to provide over 200 new recipes and informative content that jives with Rorie’s mission to share her Full ‘n Free lifestyle with people looking to live a more health-focused life.

“Different foods give our body different instructions,” Rorie says when explaining her nutritional approach. And with the newest cookbook, Rorie and Sara themselves give us the instructions to embrace a health-centered mindset and feel full, free, and fabulous.

Inside the Pages of More Food You Love

Just like on her Living Full ‘n Free cooking show, Rorie’s enthusiasm for her chock-full-of-good-stuff cooking is readily apparent in her new cookbook. In addition to the 200+ recipes, the cookbook features a plethora of extra content, including resources such as handy guides to sweeteners, freezing and defrosting, and kitchen essentials. Rorie also dedicates space to explaining her approach to health and wellness, diving into what macro meals are, respecting our own hunger cues, and snacking with intention.

To enhance accessibility for all dietary needs, every recipe features a key that will be helpful when cooking for specific food requirements; the entire cookbook is gluten free, and many recipes are nut-free and egg-free. In addition, recipe adjustments for nut-free and egg-free diets are indicated when recommended.

The recipes themselves run the gamut from well-loved dishes, such as Broccoli Salad and Overnight Yapchik, to the more overtly health-focused, like Sweet Potato Toast and Quinoa Burgers. The photography on all the recipes as well as the additional content is a joy to behold, thanks to Sara’s expert styling.

When it came to testing, I chose to try out the Fall Harvest Salad with Crispy Lentils. The presentation of this salad is gorgeous; the colors, textures, and shapes of the ingredients produce a wow factor. The crispy lentils are a unique addition to the salad and also can be used in other dishes, like rice or quinoa, for added protein and flavor.

The Cauliflower Nachos are visually appealing and delicious. With its various components as well as topping options, you can definitely make this recipe your own. I served it alongside corn tortilla chips, as the crunchy chip paired perfectly with the melange of vegetables and cheese.

My favorite recipe was the Dark Chocolate Tart with Pomegranate. When I first saw the tart recipe, I thought it looked mouthwatering, but assumed it would take some time to prepare. I was pleasantly surprised to see how simple this dessert was to assemble. With an easy homemade crust and a three-ingredient filling, this dessert was a breeze to prep. The rich, delectable chocolate mousse filling hit the spot while the pomegranate seeds on top take it to the next level. This would be a perfect dessert for a chocolate-loving crowd.

Whether you’re looking for recipes to cater to specialized diets or you’re interested in cooking with whole foods, you’ll want to check out Rorie and Sara’s new cookbook, which is filled with health-minded recipes that are exceedingly delicious, easy to prepare, and accessible to all.

You’ll love it. And you can bet it’ll love you back.

The Authors Dish Out On Their New Cookbook

In this Q&A, co-authors Rorie and Sara share the thoughts, hopes, and aspirations that drove them while working together to create their new masterpiece.

What inspired you to start this second cookbook together, and how did you approach it as a team?

Rorie: Since my first cookbook, I kept getting so many requests for more recipes. Eventually, I knew I would just have to write a sequel. But I also knew I couldn’t do it alone. Thankfully, I had worked with Sara for years and knew she was the partner I was looking for. And sure enough, working with her took this sequel to the next level.

Sara: I’ve worked with Rorie for probably 10 years. She brings such a personal touch to everything, and her mission to create food that helps people live better lives is inspiring. I’ve seen how much her food and mindsets have impacted my own life, so I was excited to team up to bring that to others, too.

Why did you call your second cookbook “MORE Food You Love”?

Rorie: Because “more” is exactly what it is! The first Food You Love introduced people to a whole new way of thinking about food. And they loved it so much that they kept asking for more! This time around, we’re bringing more of everything to the table: not just more food, but more flavor, more variety, more accessibility for people who have allergies or dietary limitations, and a lot more fun.

How does this cookbook stand out from your first one?

Rorie: It’s bolder and more elevated. In the first book, we had so many foundational staples and basics to help people find their footing in a new way of cooking. For this one, we got way more creative. Of course, there are still plenty of staples, and even the more “different” or gourmet-style foods are super clear and easy, but there are also incredible showstopper recipes in every section. It was also really important to us that everyone could access recipes in this book. All the recipes are 100% gluten-free. We made sure to include many clearly-marked nut-free and egg-free recipes. And there’s even a whole vegan section with fabulous vegan meals.

What are some of your favorite recipes from this book, and why do they stand out to you?

Sara: All the recipes are fantastic, but to me, what stands out is the snack section. As a busy mom of three, I know what it’s like to run on empty and need a quick pick-me-up. We often think of snacks as random things to munch on. What makes these recipes so valuable is that they’re fun finger foods that give your body the fuel it actually needs. Rorie also put together an amazing guide on combining ready-made foods to keep you full longer, without the sugar crash. I’m super excited for more people to have access to all this.

Who do you think would benefit most from this cookbook?

Rorie: Everyone can benefit, and even if they just start cooking these recipes because they’re delicious, they’ll get hooked very quickly because of how much lighter and more energized they will feel. I’d add that specifically, people who need to follow a limited diet due to allergies or health challenges will find it completely life-changing. When a lot of typical ingredients are off-limits (such as wheat, nuts, eggs, or dairy), there’s an indescribable joy in being able to just pick a recipe, follow it as-is, eat it, and love it along with everyone else.

What do you hope readers will take away from your cookbook?

Rorie: That you can eat the foods you love with ingredients that love you back! Hashem gave us our bodies as a gift, and it’s our task to nurture that gift – lovingly, caringly – in the best way we know: through wholesome eating, sleeping, hydrating, exercising, and embracing positive, affirming messages that motivate us to make the most of every day. My deepest hope is that readers use this cookbook as a tool to nourish themselves and their families and live their most vibrant lives.

Sara: I hope readers will feel empowered to try new things and cook inspired! I want readers to realize that good-for-you eating can be part of their everyday life, without feeling like they’re missing out. There’s no need to make it harder than it needs to be—just delicious, wholesome food that fits into any lifestyle.
